| Overview | [ Top ] | [ Bottom ] |
La casa del ficus is a private villa set in a lemon-groves area (the "Riviera dei Limoni") a short distance from the sea (2 km) and from Mount Etna, situated in Guardia Mangano, on the outskirts of Acireale (CT). A few hundred metres away is the centre of Guardia where all the main services (supermarket, chemist, newsagent, post-office etc.) can be found. The railway station, with its frequent connections north to Taormina and Messina and south to Acireale and Catania, is just 300 metres from the house. The Giarre exit of the motorway is 4 kilometres away. The part of the house used by guests has recently been modernised in rustic style using typical sicilian materials; the rooms enjoy a private bathroom and, on request, also a kitchen. The guests can use their own separate entrance, a parking space in the large courtyard, not to mention the 350 sq mts of garden with its own furniture for those moments of total relaxation. |

| Location |
Acireale and the Riviera of the lemons (distance 5 km): baroque town at the foot of Mount Etna built on a lavic plateau (La Timpa). To be visited: the ancient centre of the town with S.Sebastiano Basilica, the wonderful Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral, SS. Pietro e Paolo church. Very closer to the city is the Riviera of the Lemons with it’s typical Sicilian fishing villages S.Maria La Scala, S.Tecla, Pozzillo and Stazzo. Acireale is also famous for it’s Carnival, the best one in Sicily, which takes place in February. | | Directions | By car: Leave the motorway A18 CT-ME at the Acireale exit (if you are coming from Catania), or at the Giarre exit (if you are coming from Messina). Follow the directions for the S.S.114 (Via Nazionale). Drive for about 5km, towards Messina from Acireale, towards Catania from Giarre, until you reach Guardia. At the traffic light, 300m after entering the village, follow the sign for MARE (Stazzo). After going down for about 200m (Via Stazione) you will go through a small tunnel under the railway line. As soon as you come out via Guardia-Stazzo will be on the right. The entrance to the B&B is at number 18 (green gate). By train: Get off at Acireale station and take a treno regionale to Guardia M.-Santa Venerina. Going towards Messina, it's the first stop from Acireale, the second from Catania. | | Transportation | car hire reccomended | | Airport | catania fontanarossa 35 kms | | |

Catania and the Cyclops Riviera (distance 15 Km): town re-built in baroque style after the awful earthquake which destroyed it, almost totally, in 1693. To be visited: the ancient centre of the town with the Cathedral, the Town hall, the Elephant fountain, University square, The Ursino Castle, the Bellini Theatre and Via Crociferi, a wonderful baroque street in the middle of the town. Just 5 Km north from Catania is the Cyclops Riviera with the fishing villages of Acicastello and Acitrezza famous for its rocks (I Faraglioni) which, according to the legend, Polifemo flung against the boat of the escaping Ulysses.
